Memories of Old Tokyo
Memories of Old Tokyo
Learn About 1930s Tokyo With The Latest Technology Of The 1990s
Inspired by the CD-ROM "multimedia experiences" of the 1990s like Encarta '96 and Cosmology of Kyoto, Memories of Old Tokyo takes a set of postcards printed in 1930s Tokyo from the author's collection and brings them, hand-scanned, to your personal computer in full 1024x768 resolution.
Features:
- Browse postcards at your leisure using a full-color viewer.
- Access the cutting-edge Map-a-Postcard mode to view cards on a full-color map of Tokyo.
- "Connect" to the World Wide Web with "web-links" to the Tokyo Metropolitan Library on selected postcards.
- Up to 50 postcards (planned), some of which have never been available on the Internet before.
- Original descriptions from the cards, translated for the first time into English for the edification of the global audience.
- Commentary from the author, including historical notes, reflections on the "then and now" from the perspective of 2025, and nostalgic ramblings from the author's own experience living in and visiting Tokyo over the last 20 years.
Installing Your New Software:
Browser (HTML5)
We recommend running the software using a compatible web browser (at least Netscape Navigator version 4 recommended). The software is compatible with mobile phones and PDAs, but we suggest turning your device to "landscape mode" for best clarity of text.
CD-ROM
Insert the Memories of Old Tokyo CD-ROM into your compatible Windows PC and follow the on-screen instructions.
Windows/Linux download
Download, unzip all files and run the executable file. The software is designed to operate without an internet connection. The Linux version should additionally run on Steam Deck. The Windows file is unsigned, so you may encounter a SmartScreen warning.
Content Note
This is an interactive multimedia experience, not a game. Game-like content may be added at a later date.

OMG that's so perfect! And I love that "Cosmology of Kyoto" was your inspiration as well :)
